Jayson Tatum thought he owed Jaylen Brown after elbowing him in a collision that resulted in a facial fracture that required him to miss numerous games.
“I feel like I need to buy him a car or something,” Tatum said after the team’s win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. “For the first time this season, me and him collide from the corner, and I end up elbowing him in the face.” Obviously, I’m devastated; it was a freak event. But whether it’s a mask or a car, I think I’ve got it.”

Brown was made aware of the comments prior to Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
“He said that?” Brown inquired, a smirk on his face. “No one informed me about this. That appeals to me. That will be fantastic.”
Tatum may come to regret his pledge after Brown ridiculed him during the news conference.
“It’s Jayson Tatum. “I’m going to buy a car?” Brown enquired of a Boston Celtics teammate. “He’s lying. He’s definitely lying.”
Brown’s injury is expected to keep him out until after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old is unsure if he will play in the All-Star Game, calling himself “day-to-day.” However, he does not anticipate missing many more games or the C’s.
“It’s going to take more than a Jayson Tatum elbow to take me out,” stated Brown.
Before the break, the Celtics play three games: Sunday at Memphis, Tuesday at Milwaukee, and Wednesday at Detroit.
