TThis week marks the start of both the Milwaukee Bucks season and the giving season.
On October 23, the “BIG Give Back” will begin.
The Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation and Milwaukee Diaper Mission are leading the fundraising effort.
Why not have Giannis Antetokounmpo and his fiancée, Mariah Riddlesprigger, speak with CBS 58’s Amanda Porterfield about their decision to donate money, diapers, and wipes?
Despite being one of the most well-known celebrity couples in the nation, Giannis and Mariah face the same challenges as the rest of us as parents.
Although number 34 believes he is a master at packing diapers, his fiancé advises against changing diapers too quickly.
Giannis and Mariah were requested to share their personal diaper stories by Amanda.
“None with Mav, one with Liam, like the first couple of weeks or months when he was a baby and I was changing his diapers, sometimes I forget to like cover his privates and he would like, pee on you,” says Giannis. Mariah Riddlesprigger says, “I never got peed on!”
In terms of who changes the most diapers in their house, it’s Mariah, since Giannis is typically on the road with the Milwaukee Bucks.
“When there’s a really bad blowout, he screams, and he’s like, ‘Mariah!'” says Riddlesprigger.
While it may be hard to believe, yes, these two change their own kids’ diapers, and buy them, too.
Mariah talks about the expense of baby supplies, specifically diapers, when she goes shopping.
“I’m leaving the store, and I am looking at the receipt and I’m like, why am I spending this much?” says Riddlesprigger.
For this reason, instead of asking for gifts at her first baby shower for her now-toddler Liam, Mariah Riddlesprigger requested diapers to be donated to needy families. Three years later, in 2020, she is an outspoken board member of Milwaukee Diaper Mission.
In that time, her contributions have enabled the group to give more than a million Wisconsin families diapers and wipes.
Being a member of the Milwaukee Diaper Mission board, according to Riddlesprigger, has taught her a lot.
“That it’s even more needed than even I thought. One in two families need diapers? That’s a sad statistic,” says Riddlesprigger.
“We are fortunate enough right now to afford them and we don’t have to choose between diapers and a meal. But there’s a lot of families out there that have to make that decision. We were one of those families,” says Giannis.
While Giannis hasn’t been hesitant about talking about his family’s troubles growing up, Mariah comes from a modest background.
For this reason, in remembrance of his late father, Milwaukee Diaper Mission collaborates with CAFF, the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation, to assist families just like his own.
“As CAFF, we are going to do the best that we can to help communities, open doors as much as we can, help communities in the states, Greece, Nigeria,” Giannis says.
These two have insane objectives for the “BIG Give Back,” where families in the Milwaukee region may donate cash, wipes, and diapers until October 31. People from all over can participate.
They claim that raising awareness of the need for necessities like menstrual products, wipes, and diapers in communities is their main objective.
They have a lot on their plate already, with the Bucks season beginning, a wedding to organize, two boys to chase, and a newborn daughter Eva Brooke to take care of.
Still, they think it’s worthwhile, and their family’s aim is to give back.
“We want to have more; I want a big family. I want just a bunch of Antetokounmpos running around. I feel like it’s even more of a blessing because we get to do this together, it’s a partnership and I have a very good partner. I love them, I love my kids, but sometimes they drive me crazy,” says Giannis.
