The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers have long been considered the NBA’s most prestigious clubs. The discussion over whether organization should be ranked first is still going on, as the two clubs are neck and neck in terms of awards. The Celtics, however, have a tiny advantage, according to Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr.
Hardaway’s old teammate, Theo Pinson, recently asked him on the “Run Your Race” podcast which NBA organization he considers “America’s team.” Hardaway paused briefly before stating unequivocally that he was not contemplating the Golden State Warriors, the most successful club in the last decade (h/t @TidalLeague on X):
“It’s definitely not the Warriors.”
Hardaway then pondered the subject more before deciding on Boston. As the key basis for his pick, he mentioned the franchise’s consistent success from the league’s inception:
“Is this a trick question about America’s basketball team?” “I believe it’s Boston.”I believe Boston has been winning since the beginning. Bill Russell oversaw the league even when Wilt (Chamberlain) was playing. Boston, in my opinion. But, once again, there is no politics or anything. It’s either Boston or Los Angeles for me, but I’ll go with Boston.”
However, because of the Lakers’ global notoriety, Pinson chose to give them the advantage:
“I personally believe the Lakers are (No.) 1. just because they’re worldwide.”For example, everyone is familiar with the Lakers.”
