Torino have confirmed that Perr Schuurs, a reported Liverpool target, will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury.
The Serie A club confirmed on their official website that the Dutch defender will be out for at least six months following an injury suffered in this weekend’s top-flight Italian battle against Inter Milan.
Schuurs, hailed as a ‘immense’ player, was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but the deal fell through as the Reds focused on midfield signings instead.
With Liverpool expecting to recruit a defender in January, Schuurs would have been a fantastic signing for the Anfield giants in 2024.
However, Schuurs’ season-ending injury would put a stop to any ambitions Liverpool had to recruit the former Ajax wonderkid in January.
Indeed, the defender would have been a perfect fit for Liverpool’s style of play, but Liverpool will now have to look elsewhere for defensive depth.
Liverpool needed to hear of Schuurs’ injury the last thing they needed to hear.
ACL injuries are arguably the worst thing that can happen to a football player, and Schuurs now has a long and arduous journey back to full health.
The defender was at the top of his career and was probably dreaming of a move to the Premier League, where Liverpool may have been a viable option.
However, the Dutchman is now back to square one, and many fans and analysts expect Schuurs to be back to his best in time for the 2024/25 season.
