Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic is labeled as questionable for Wednesday’s season-opening against the San Antonio Spurs, according to head coach Jason Kidd.
Doncic has been limited by a left calf strain suffered during a workout in Madrid on Oct. 9 during the team’s 12-day international trip. After the Mavericks returned to Dallas, he received an MRI.
He indicated on Tuesday that his calf is getting better and is no longer uncomfortable, but he isn’t ready to declare himself ready to go.
Doncic, a four-time All-NBA first-team member, averaged a career-high 32.4 points per game last season while also averaging 8.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists in 66 games.
When Doncic returns, it will be the first complete season for him and Kyrie Irving, the latter of whom is an eight-time All-Star with a 23.4 career scoring average.
Irving averaged 27 points in 20 games with Dallas after being acquired from the Brooklyn Nets last season.
