Kyrie Andrew Irving was born in Melborne, Australia on March 23, 1992. He grew raised with two sisters: Asia, his older sister, and London, his younger sister. Kyrie Irving enjoys reading, singing and dancing, and playing the baritone saxophone. Rod Strickland, a former NBA player, is his godfather, and his cousin was also a highly regarded basketball player who played for the University of Kentucky.

Kyrie has a four-and-a-half-year-old daughter named Azurie Elizabeth Irving, an homage to Kyrie’s mother. Kyrie Irving has also appeared in several television shows and a film. Drederick Irving, his father, played collegiate basketball for Boston University alongside Shawn Teague. Following his college career, Drederick relocated to Australia to play professionally for the Bulleen Boomers in the SEABL. Kyrie grew up in the Melborne Suburbs until he was two years old, when his family moved to the United States. Kyrie is a dual citizen of the United States and Australia. Kyrie’s mother died of illness when he was four years old. His father reared him alongside his aunts. He grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, where he frequently saw his father’s adult-league games, which sparked his interest in basketball.

Kyrie’s passion for basketball blossomed during his freshman and sophomore years in high school. Kyrie averaged 26.5 points, 10.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 points per game for Montclair Kimberley Academy.

He went on to become the school’s second 1,000-point scorer. He then transferred to St. Patrick High School because he felt he wanted a more challenging environment. In his first season Kyrie Irving Averaged 17.0 ppg., 5.0 rpg., 6.0 apg. and 2.0 spg, and led the team to its third New Jersey Tournament of Champions title in four years. He led the USA East to the Nike Global Challenge tournament title in August 2009. He earned the MVP, averaging 21.3 points per game and 4.3 assists each game.

College Life    On October 22, 2009, Kyrie Irving committed to Duke University, where he played for the Blue Devils for the 2010-2011 season under head coach Mike Kryzewski. He averaged 17.4 points per game on 53.2% shooting, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals through the first eight games of the season. He was a strong contender for NCAA Freshman of the Year during his freshman season until he suffered a significant ligament damage in his right big toe during the ninth game. Kyrie returned to the court for the first time since his terrible injury on March 17th. Duke progressed to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen that year, but fell to Arizona, in which Kyrie scored 28 points. That game also happened to be Kyrie’s final game for the Blue Devils.Basketball Career    Kyrie Irving entered the NBA Draft in 2011, where he was chosen first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was nominated to Charles Barkley’s team for the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge. Kyrie scored 34 points in the game, going 8 for 8 from three-point shooting, and was named MVP. In his rookie season, he received 117 out of 120 votes for NBA Rookie of the Year and was the only unanimous selection to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In his first season, he averaged 18.5 points per game, 5.4 assists, and shot 46.9% from the field and 39.9% from three pointers and beyond. In his second season, he played in his first All-Star game, second Rising Stars Challenge, and first 3 point contest.  He also suffered a shattered hand, an injured index finger, and other ailments. He finished his sophomore season with 22.5 points, 5.9 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. Kyrie Irving was selected as the starting point guard for the Eastern Conference NBA All-Star game in his third season in the league. He earned the All-Star MVP, scoring 31 points and dishing out 14 assists. The Cleveland Cavaliers hoped to form their “dream team” in 2015. This year, the Cavaliers made good moves and signed two other high-priced players, LeBron James and Kevin Love. Kyrie Irving made his first NBA Finals berth in his fourth season with the support of these two players. After Kyrie injured his knee cap in game 1, the club lost in game 6 to the Golden State Warriors. In his fifth season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, they made it to the finals and won the championship. The Cavaliers then make a comeback and return to the NBA Finals the following year, only to be swept by the Golden State Warriors.Kyrie asked the Cavaliers to move him in July 2017 in order to become a superstar like LeBron James and lead his own team to the NBA Finals. Kyrie Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics on August 22, 2017 and is still a member of the team.
