Liverpool XI vs Toulouse: Nunez, Salah to start; Gakpo in contention

Liverpool will try to make it three wins in a row in the UEFA Europa League when they welcome Toulouse on Thursday night at Anfield. And Jurgen Klopp has welcomed a nice update on team news ahead of his club’s next match.

The good news is that Cody Gakpo is back in action after recuperating from a knee injury suffered last month. However, Andrew Robertson (shoulder), Thiago Alcantara (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), and Ben Doak (muscle injury) are out.

Curtis Jones will also be available after missing the game against Everton last weekend due to suspension. During his pre-match press conference, Klopp mentioned Robertson and Gakpo.

“Robbo had surgery and [it] all went well, as well as it could, so the recovery begins after he wakes up,” he explained. I believe it occurred this morning. That’s all. We don’t know how long it will take or anything, but the first stage has been completed, which is wonderful.”

“Cody is in full training now since Sunday, which means he is available for the squad,” he stated of Gakpo. We’ll have to see what we do with that, but it’s a nice start.”

Despite Gakpo’s availability, the Dutchman is unlikely to start, with Klopp gradually reintroducing him into the action. Darwin Nunez, on the other hand, should return to the starting lineup to drive the attack. However, with Gakpo and Diogo Jota out, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will be the two wide attackers.

In terms of the midfield, Klopp should make wholesale changes, with Curtis Jones returning to the starting eleven. Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott will be joined in the park by the academy graduate. As a result, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch will be able to rest.

The defensive unit should also witness numerous changes, with Kostas Tsimikas the sole player who will remain on the backline. The Greek defender will be joined in the back four by Jarell Quansah, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez. Finally, Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal, with Alisson Becker taking a break.
