Every NBA game has a different fashion presentation. And the Dallas Mavericks boast the league’s best tunnel.
The NBA players’ nightly walk into the arena has evolved into a competitive fashion show in recent years. The “tunnel walk” has been raised to high art by P.J. Tucker, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kelly Oubre Jr., and the Mavericks’ James Johnson. Tucker, in particular, has carved out a new lane for non-star athletes with a sense of style as the Michael Jordan of wearing Jordans. People who follow such things briefly went insane during the summer when, thanks to a couple of transactions, Gilgeous-Alexander, Oubre Jr., and Johnson were all on the Thunder for a few days.
Slam magazine’s LeagueFits Twitter and Instagram account is dedicated to capturing NBA fashion. Prior to this season, it has shown little interest in the Mavericks. However, LeagueFits tweeted on January 9th, “If nothing else, just know the Mavs have the best tunnel in the league.” A week or two later, LeagueFits posted a photo of Josh Green hitting the AAC’s slick catwalk in a Supreme tee and Quarterfinal flannel, claiming that he might be their Rookie of the Year. And Johnson, who was just voted one of LeagueFits’ midseason MVPs, as well as Willie Cauley-Stein, are regulars.
So, at the very least, this year’s Mavericks are holding up their part of the bargain before the games begin, thanks to their spectacular new entrance. Luka Doni shows off the team’s renovated runway in this photo. (Lara Beth Seager creates all walk-in looks.)
The second half of the season begins today at 7:30 p.m. against the Spurs. Keep your gaze fixed on the runway.
