Liverpool have made a strong drive to sign Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen, according to Calciomercato.
The Nigerian striker’s contract with the Serie A club expires in June 2025, and efforts to extend it have stalled. According to Calciomercato, there is a ‘huge chill’ between the player and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, making it impossible for him to commit to a new contract.
Osimhen is thought to be looking for a 100% raise on his current £4 million-a-year salary, which is a stumbling block for Napoli. Furthermore, his representative wants a simple and inexpensive release clause in the new contract, but De Laurentiis insists on valuing the company at more than £174 million.
In the midst of this, Calciomercato claims that Osimhen is considering a move to the Premier League. Liverpool are said to be the frontrunners for his signature, having made a decisive move with multiple direct contacts. If Napoli fail to renew his contract, the Merseyside giants could make a move for the £104 million star.
Outstanding performer
Liverpool parted ways with Roberto Firmino last summer when his contract expired. They did not feel the need to sign a marquee striker this year, but they may do so next year. Al-Ittihad was interested in Mohamed Salah last summer, but the leadership turned down various bids.
The Saudi Pro League champions could return for him at the end of the season, and the Egyptian star could request a transfer. In such a circumstance, Liverpool must be properly prepared, and Osimhen is likely to be recognized as a replacement to their precious asset.
Salah has been a consistent goal and assist contributor for Liverpool from the right wing. The team may struggle to locate a comparable replacement and may instead recruit a world-class striker in the form of Osimhen. Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo could step in to fill the vacancy on the right wing.
