Two Significant Contract Moves Announced by the Golden State Warriors

The rookie scale contracts of Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody have had their fourth-year options exercised by the Warriors, keeping them under contract for the upcoming campaign.

The Warriors put off making the obvious choices until the Halloween deadline. Rookie contracts are guaranteed for the first two years under the new collective bargaining agreement, with team options for the third and fourth years. Most of the time, the contracts are so inexpensive that choosing isn’t tough.

Although neither Kuminga nor Moody have developed into all-star players, it is anticipated that they will be vital members of the Warriors team this season.

Kuminga was chosen by Golden State with the seventh pick in the 2021 Draft, one pick ahead of Franz Wagner, a star player from Orlando. The Democratic Republic of Kongo forward has averaged 9.7 points per game since then. Out of 140 games, he started 28 of them.

Warriors Announce Two Big Contract Moves

Despite having a very high ceiling due to his athleticism, Kuminga hasn’t yet proven worthy of a significant role. He still has occasional trouble making decisions with the ball and with off-ball defense, but with more consistent playing time this year, those issues should get better.

Kuminga is averaging career-highs in points (11), rebounds (4.3), and minutes (21.7) per game through the first four games of this season.

In certain aspects, Moody—the 14th pick in the same draft class—is better suited to assist the current team than Kuminga. He fits the description of a role player who doesn’t need the ball and has a more polished outside shot in addition to showing flashes of multipositional defensive ability.

Nevertheless, nobody would confuse Moody’s upside with Kuminga’s.
