The Warriors’ new City Edition uniform honors the vintage San Francisco cable car

NBC Sports Bay Area first featured the Warriors’ new City Edition uniform, which pays homage to the iconic San Francisco cable car.

On Thursday, the Warriors formally unveiled their 2023–24 NBA season Nike City Edition uniforms, which honor the 150th anniversary of San Francisco’s famous cable cars.

The jersey has a sloping “San Francisco” typeface on the front, along with embellishments and numbers modeled after the front of No. 578, San Francisco’s oldest operating cable car. The uniform was created by Rakuten and was inspired by the theme “The City Calls.”

The city’s curved name is a representation of the hills that slope downward in San Francisco. The pattern along the side of the jersey and down through the shorts represents the city’s cable car tracks, and the waistband is printed with an image of the steel cables and cable car cogs.

Not to mention, the new uniform has a personalized monogram on the front left leg, which is a distinctive design modeled after the vintage San Francisco cable car insignia.
