On Friday night, the Denver Nuggets overcame the Dallas Mavericks in another epic fight between Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic. When asked about Jokic after the game, Doncic expressed his admiration for the Nuggets player.
“He’s not really on the media stuff a lot, but all of the players, all of the coaches know how special he is,” Doncic said, according to Dalton Trigg of FanNation’s Dallas Basketball. “Everyone recognizes his uniqueness… He’s currently the best basketball player in the world.”
Doncic said of competing against Jokic, “It’s wonderful. It’s always a good time when he’s around. Of course, he’s a fantastic basketball player, but he’s also a wonderful person. That’s what I like best about him: he’s always cracking jokes. He’s just a simple and great individual.”
Jokic and Doncic have a lot of mutual respect, and the Nuggets star quipped that his favorite thing about Doncic is being able to defeat him and make fun of him. Both players have won seven of their fourteen career games against each other. In these games, their stats are also fairly close, which has resulted in some great matchups.
With the Nuggets and Mavericks both having high aspirations for their prospects in the Western Conference this season, they may meet in the postseason for an entertaining clash.
