On Monday, Jaylen Brown knocked down Gobert with a first-quarter poster slam.
Rudy Gobert can now be added to the long list of NBA big men and elite players who have been the recipient of a highlight-reel dunk from Jaylen Brown.
On Monday night, the Celtics wing had one of the best dunks of his stellar NBA career, posterizing the Timberwolves center.
Brown forced Karl-Anthony Towns to bite on a shot fake with 8:37 left in the first quarter, sneaking by the Minnesota big man at the 3-point line and sprinting into the paint.
Brown took flight, ascending over Gobert and eventually knocking him to the hardwood with a seismic slam, with Gobert — a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year — serving as the last line of defense.
You can see Brown’s slam from various angles below:
Brown is among the finest in the NBA at finishing through contact while leaping to the rim. However, the 27-year-old swingman has a history with Gobert.
Brown and Gobert had a back-and-forth in March 2023 after the center struck a masked Brown in the face barely a month after suffering a facial fracture.
“I probably needed to get hit in the face to get going a little bit,” Brown admitted after the game. “I thought Gobert was being a little reckless.” I already had a shattered cheekbone from [Jayson Tatum], so I responded when I was punched in the face.”
Brown seemed to have had the last laugh against Gobert less than eight months after that tense game in Minnesota.
