Liverpool is allegedly one of the clubs interested in signing Napoli striker Piotr Zielinski. The midfielder might become a free agent next summer after failing to reach an agreement with the reigning Serie A champions on a new contract.
According to reports in Italy, Liverpool may compete with West Ham for the seasoned Poland international’s contract. From January 1, Zielinski will be able to arrange a pre-contract deal with a non-Italian team.
This might give Liverpool and West Ham an advantage against Juventus, who are also interested in the youngster. Juve are looking for replacements for Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli, who are both facing lengthy suspensions, with Pogba facing a potential lengthy sentence and Fagioli suspended for seven months.
Zielinski has long been linked with Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp is said to like the 29-year-old. The Reds may finally be able to land a long-sought after target.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool is poised to start talks about a transfer. According to reports, Napoli may be tempted to sell in January in order to recuperate finances and avoid leaving for nothing six months later.
Zielinski’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, although there appears to be little interest in extending it. Premier League clubs are now circling in anticipation of signing a pre-contract arrangement in January.
Liverpool’s midfield has undergone significant alterations in recent months. Klopp’s side finished fifth last season due to a lack of vitality in the middle of the game, their lowest finish in a full season under the German mastermind.
When their contracts expired last summer, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita were all free to choose new teams. Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Endo Wataru, and Ryan Gravenberch were all brought to Anfield in a dramatic reshuffle.
If Klopp wants to add some experience to his midfield ahead of the 2024-25 season, Zielinski could be another option. The former Udinese player is just seven outings away from reaching 350 for Napoli.
This season, he has started all 11 Serie A games, scoring twice and assisted on another two. Napoli now face the prospect of losing one of their important players in the coming months, whether in January or at the end of the season.
