The Denver Nuggets have opened the 2023-24 season with a 7-1 record courtesy to Nikola Jokic, fresh off their first title in team history. Making a strong case to be the early favorite for the MVP award, Jokic has once again put the Nuggets on his shoulders, especially with Jamal Murray out with a hamstring ailment.
The Nuggets will be put to the test on Wednesday night when they face the Golden State Warriors in a showdown of the last two NBA champions. Without Murray, Jokic will seek to lead Denver to victory, although his status for this game is unknown after appearing on the team’s official injury list.
Due to right wrist discomfort, Jokic is now listed as probable versus the Warriors. Jokic was added to the injury report ahead of the Nuggets’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. He finished with 35 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists in 36 minutes against New Orleans, passing LeBron James and Jason Kidd on the NBA’s all-time triple-double list.
It appears like the Nuggets are too concerned about Jokic’s wrist inflammation, as they would have kept him out of Monday night’s game if he was actually in pain. The Serbian big man has never missed a game until he is legitimately hurt, so his wrist is simply something the team is keeping an eye on early in the season.
Jokic is a two-time MVP for a reason, and he has been the greatest player in the league through the first eight games of his team’s season. Not only has Denver’s star had three triple-doubles this season, but he has also had a double-double in every game. Jokic now has a game average of 28.4 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 8.4 assists.
Unless anything unexpected happens, Nikola Jokic will be available to play on Wednesday night in a game that the Nuggets desperately need to win in order to advance to a league-best 8-1.
