The people Dell and Sonya Curry, Steph Curry’s parents, decided to associate with after their divorce was unsettling.

A player like Steph Curry, who is sure to become an NBA Hall of Famer, should be able to put everything else aside and concentrate only on the game when they are on the court. Unfortunately for Curry, though, it is difficult to see how he wouldn’t be sidetracked by the events of the past few years in his personal life.

After raising two fascinating basketball superstar sons and more than thirty years of marriage, Sonya and Dell Curry announced their intention to divorce in 2021. Steph would find it distracting enough to hear about his parents’ divorce, but things only got worse from there.

First of all, he must have found it strange enough that so many fans had called Steph’s mother a MILF following the news of her divorce. It gets even more ridiculous from there because those same fans openly expressed their disappointment upon finding out that his mom was seeing someone else.

Interestingly enough, though, the strangest announcement was not yet to come. After all, the specifics of his parents’ new relationships made headlines and sparked jeers once they began dating other people.

What Caused the Divorce of Steph Curry’s Parents?

It is only natural for people to wonder what went wrong when a couple files for divorce after 33 years of marriage. But since everyone involved has a different version of what happened, there are frequently three versions of what happened in those circumstances in addition to the truth.

Dell and Sonya Curry first released a statement together after their marriage failed.

“We are incredibly appreciative of all the blessings and achievements! We will continue to follow similar paths and remain devoted to and supportive of our children and grandchildren. We kindly request that our privacy be upheld and that you pray for our family going forward.

Not long after, reports surfaced regarding Sonya and Dell’s divergent accounts of the events leading up to their divorce, despite their joint statement.

Sonya was the one who filed for divorce, according to TMZ, and she charged Dell with “marital misconduct”.

Later, Dell retaliated with a lawsuit, alleging that Sonya had lied about her behavior and been unfaithful. Dell further contended that Sonya moved on from their relationship so fast and was already living with her new man, so he shouldn’t be required to pay alimony.

Why Is There Such Controversy Around Steph Curry’s Parents’ New Partners?

Following their divorce, Steph Curry’s mother, Sonya Curry, made headlines when she reportedly moved on from the man she was allegedly seeing, former NFL player Steven Johnson. Even with her ex-husband’s alleged infidelity, that marriage didn’t seem right.

As it happened, the weirdest part happened when the world found out that Dell Curry had a new significant other. The reason for that is that Dell and his new girlfriend Nikki Smith were in the stands when Sonya and Steven attended the 2022 NBA Finals. Naturally, even though Steven became somewhat well-known during his football career, not many people are aware of Nikki’s identity. 

Steven and Nikki were once wed, if the reports are true, which they most definitely appear to be. Fans began calling the entire situation a “wife swap” as soon as word of it leaked online.

Regretfully for Steph, others besides admirers observed that his parents appeared to be dating a couple who had previously been married. 

It’s undoubtedly difficult. I could be really angry and say, “You guys screwed this up.” That would be one way I could go. However, it will be an acknowledgment of the two of you for raising me. I am at peace with myself because of all of you.

Since there has been no word on whether Dell and Sonya’s divorce has been finalized as of 2023, it looks to be ongoing. It makes sense, though, that they would wish to keep the most recent developments regarding their divorce a secret given the attention surrounding their new relationships.
