Lakers Injury Update: Against the Grizzlies, Anthony Davis is likely to play, and LeBron James is questionable

Due to a left calf contusion, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is listed as questionable for Tuesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Anthony Davis, who has left hip/adductor spasms, is also listed as probable for the game.

Because of the injury he sustained in the previous game against Phoenix, LeBron missed the Lakers’ six-point victory over the Trail Blazers on Sunday night. James acknowledged that despite playing through it, the calf never relaxed that evening and he had to learn to live with the pain.

Nevertheless, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham is adamant that LeBron won’t be sidelined for too long and that the injury is not serious.

Ham remarked, “I don’t think it’s anything major.” But the reality that it resulted in the most important thing became to give him time to sit out, manage his discomfort in a sensitive area of one of his lower extremities, and attempt to prepare him for the remaining games.

Given that the star big man has played again for the last two games and led the way on Sunday without LeBron, Davis’ injury designation is not surprising. In the Lakers’ second straight victory, Davis led the way with 30 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. He has fully recovered from his injury and is once again a dominant player.

Regarding injuries, the Lakers also received some good news when they declared that Jarred Vanderbilt was cleared to start a “return to play progression.” He will not be ready to play against the Grizzlies on Tuesday, but he appears to be improving with his left heel bursitis.

Given how important James has been to the Lakers’ success, it was natural to worry about how the team would perform without him against Portland. However, Austin Reaves, Cam Reddish, and Rui Hachimura all made significant contributions to the team’s victory, and Davis was pleased with how the group as a whole performed without LeBron.

The Lakers big man continued, “Everyone just has to step up when you’re missing a guy like that in all facets of the game from rebounding to playmaking, scoring, and defense.” “Guys need to step up, and tonight, I think the guys did.”

“Austin made some big shots, TP on the defensive end, Cam on the defensive end, Rui taking the challenge and guarding Jerami Grant. So I think everybody just stepped up and that’s what you do when you have one of your big dogs out.”
