Rookie Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks, who is only eighteen, is already influencing a new wave of American hockey fans.
A child leaning against the glass of Amerant Bank Arena with a sign that read, “Bedard, I want just like you,” was noticed by the star forward before Sunday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
Skating over to where the young fan was standing, Bedard flipped a puck into the crowd with the end of his stick. To ensure that the child received the memento in the correct hands, he pointed to the child next.
With his jaw agape, the child observed Bedard skate off.
On Sunday, the young player dazzled everyone with two goals that were so impressive that they kept his team in the match. According to Chris Kamka of NBC Sports Chicago, Bedard made NHL history by becoming the youngest player to have consecutive multigoal games even though the Blackhawks lost 4-3 to the Panthers.
In terms of goals (nine) and points (13), Bedard currently leads all rookies and Blackhawks skaters in those two categories. The first-overall pick appears to have found his groove as he has nine points (seven goals, two assists) in his last six games after recording four points (two goals, two assists) in his first seven.
It’s concerning to observe that the Blackhawks’ seasoned forward Nick Foligno is playing less aggressively.
