There won’t be any Draymond Green games anytime soon.
The Warriors forward’s involvement in the altercation during Tuesday’s Golden State vs. Minnesota game earned him a five-game suspension from the NBA.
The Warriors and Timberwolves game was just getting started when he put Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.
The NBA justifies Green’s suspension.
The league made its decision public on Wednesday night, stating that Green would miss five games without pay for intensifying a physical altercation on the floor and grabbing Gobert by the neck in a dangerous and unsportsmanlike way.
For their parts in the incident on Tuesday, Minnesota players Jaden McDaniels and Gobert, along with Green’s teammate Klay Thompson, have all been fined $25,000.
The suspension of Green was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who also mentioned that he would not be playing in the in-season tournament against the San Antonio Spurs.
Due to the suspension, Green’s finances will suffer; the Golden State player will forfeit $769,970 in pay. What sparked the fight?
Before a point was scored in the Warriors vs. Wolves game, there was fighting.
As they went down the court, Thompson and McDaniels tugged at each other’s jerseys, which prompted Gobert, the big man from Minnesota, to intervene and keep them apart.
Green saw Thompson being held by Gobert. He grabbed the Frenchman as he hurried to defend his teammate.
Star players missing for the Warriors versus OKC
The Warriors, who are already without the services of Stephen Curry because of a knee injury, are severely harmed by Green’s suspension.
After taking a hard fall in Golden State’s loss to Minnesota on Sunday, Curry has been ruled out of the team’s upcoming game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
