The Boston Celtics have been plagued by injuries in the past, but the 2023-24 season has so far been good to them. However, Boston could be missing star guard Jaylen Brown ahead of a crucial game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Celtics stated on Wednesday morning that Brown is questionable due to an unexplained ailment. Brown won’t have much time to recover from his illness because Boston plays Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night.
Prospects for the Celtics vs. Sixers
This is the first time the two-time All-Star has missed a game this season, despite averaging 22.9 points per game through 10 games. With Jaylen Brown and the majority of the squad healthy, the C’s are off to a fast start, going 8-2. The Sixers are also 8-2, but have the head-to-head advantage after beating Boston last week.
Brown is not the only surprise on the injury list for the Celtics. Kristaps Porzingis suffered a right knee contusion against the New York Knicks on Monday night. The Latvian big man has been plagued by ailments throughout his career, so he will almost certainly sit out this game against the Sixers. Boston does not want to take any chances, especially with five games scheduled until next Thursday.
However, the Celtics would undoubtedly benefit from a full lineup against the surging Sixers. The league’s reigning MVP, Joel Embiid, is one of the league’s most difficult defensive assignments, and losing a center to play against him would be a huge loss.
