The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Washington Wizards 130-117 on Wednesday night, led by Luka Doncic’s 26 points and 10 assists.
Doncic also grabbed seven rebounds, falling one rebound short of his third double-double of the season after being restricted to a season-low 16 points in Tuesday’s loss at New Orleans.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Mavericks with 31 points and seven 3-pointers on a night when point guard Kyrie Irving sat out with a sore left foot.
“He has a problem with his left foot. “It’s sore,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said of Irving before the game. Irving played 26 minutes in Tuesday’s loss. “So we’re just not going to take any chances.”
Derrick Jones Jr. scored 20 points, and Dereck Lively II added 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Dallas led by double digits for the remaining three quarters and made 17 3-pointers as a team, breaking the 15-point mark for the tenth time in their first 12 games.
Kyle Kuzma led the Wizards with 22 points, as they fell for the fourth time in two nights after blowing a double-digit lead in Toronto. Deni Avdija had 15 points and Jordan Poole had 16.
Dallas grabbed control with a 25-8 first-quarter surge, leading 32-17. The Mavericks led by as many as 25 points in the second quarter before taking a 71-51 edge into halftime.
Hardaway nailed three three-pointers in the second quarter, and he and Doncic both had 20 points by halftime.
Washington was outscored by 43 points in four quarters between the first and second halves on Wednesday and Monday.
