Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets was dismissed from Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons after picking up his second technical foul of the game. The dismissal came when Jokic complained to the official about a missed call:
Jokic’s suspension came shortly after his head coach, Michael Malone, was removed, meaning Denver will have to play the balance of the game without their head coach and top player. There was a lot of frustration on Denver’s side throughout the first half of this game, which resulted in two big ejections.
Already without Jamal Murray due to injury, the Nuggets are suddenly extremely shorthanded as they attempt to stop a two-game losing streak. Denver is just 3-3 since Murray went down with an injury, and even though they are playing the weakest club in the NBA in the Pistons, it will be difficult to win without Jokic, Murray, and coach Malone.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the officiating crew explains why they ejected Jokic and Malone, because while both were very agitated, it’s often difficult to discern exactly what was said to merit the technicals. The Nuggets have struggled in recent games, and some of that frustration was evident early in this one.
