As a result of playing for the Slovenian national team during the offseason, Luka Doncic has outperformed his rivals internationally.
This matchup was no different from the last one.
When Slovenia was facing Greece, Doncic used an incredible variety of crossovers and step-backs to overwhelm the opposition’s defense, causing one player to trip over his own feet.
Doncic stared the defender down after he went down, then moved in and made a layup while drawing a foul.
Both his teammates and the audience were in amazement at the play. His fellow running mate for the Mavericks, Kyrie Irving, couldn’t help but show Doncic love on social media when he saw the clip.
“Stare down type crazy @lukadoncic. lol I love the energy,” Irving posted on his Instagram story.
Irving, who signed a three-year contract extension with the Mavericks in the offseason, is hoping he and Doncic can make a run to the playoffs in Irving’s first full year in Dallas beginning this fall.
If Friday’s highlights are any indication, it’s clear that Doncic is ready to roll.
