After being dismissed from his team’s game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Golden State Warriors point guard Chris Paul says he has a “personal” issue with NBA referee Scott Foster.
With barely 23 seconds till halftime, Paul was visibly irritated with Foster after Phoenix player Kevin Durant fouled him.

After an incident between Paul and Foster, the referee called Paul for a technical foul before Durant could shoot his second free throw.

The decision seemed to infuriate Paul, who remained heated towards Foster, who immediately awarded him a second technical, resulting in an inevitable dismissal from the game.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr was extremely upset with the call, and he collected his own technical foul as his team fell to the Suns 123-115.

“It’s personal,” Paul stated after the game in his post-match press conference. “A few years ago, we had a personal crisis. The league is aware, as is everyone else, and there has been a meeting. It’s a scenario with my son, therefore, absolutely.

“I’m fine with a ref talking or saying whatever he wants, but don’t use a tech to make your point.” I need to do a better job of staying on the court for my teammates. But, yep, that’s all there is to it.”

Paul and Foster have a lengthy connection dating back to the player’s days with the Los Angeles Clippers. They were also involved in issues while Paul was with the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Phoenix Suns.

“It was a whole thing,” Paul remarked of Foster. “However, it’s been a thing for a while. At this point, it is what it is.”

After the game, Golden State star Steph Curry and Steve Kerr defended Paul’s behavior, saying they were stunned the NBA veteran was booted.

“I didn’t think Chris deserved to be ejected,” stated Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “Who was the first tech?” Absolutely. But I thought the second one was superfluous. Everyone gets furious out there, but the official decides.”

“When both player and ref engage in conversation, that has to stay there,” Curry continued. That’s what I told Scott after he ejected him. There are times when players overstep their bounds.

“There are moments when you have to back down. But I don’t like it when both are engaging.”

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, hosting Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs at the Chase Center.
