The Currys’ Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation and its supporting partners will invest additional $50 million in the Oakland Unified School District. “I like it because I can play with my friends here every day,” Ermias remarked, whose regular inquiries are directed to various teachers and principal Nehseem Ratchford.”
The entire Ermias family could benefit. He lives across the street from school, is one of four children, and has a younger brother at Lockwood, which had 658 students as of late last week — around 65% Hispanic, more than 25% Black, and a burgeoning Arabic community. These are the youngsters the Currys wish to raise to achieve great things.
This may come as a surprise, given that Golden State Warriors 2-guard Klay Thompson is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the cleanest shooters in basketball history. The problem, at least for this exercise, is that his game was never well-liked by analytics before the injuries. Even in 2015-16, perhaps his best season ever, when he was named 3rd Team All-NBA and was a member of the Warriors’ 73-9 squad, Thompson was only ranked in the Top 50 by analytics.
Regardless, Thompson’s back-to-back significant ACL and Achilles injuries didn’t help matters, as Real Value had him worth $8.7 million this season, but he really earned $30.1 million for a $21.3 million overcharge. Perhaps this is why Golden State did not sign Thompson to an extension this offseason and will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next year. That will be an exciting free agency to watch.
Curry has been an eager mentor, guiding Sabrina through everything from her own ankle injuries to being the face of a franchise and dealing with several stars. The Liberty assembled a superteam this offseason, bringing in Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot to bolster an up-and-coming squad that finished sixth in the 2022 playoffs.
“I talk to [Steph] on a regular basis,” Ionescu says to Dime. “It’s always a full circle moment when you can grow up watching them on TV and on the court and then pick up the phone and call them if you need to.” I know how that feels, and I want to be that for younger athletes as well, utilizing my experience to want to be that mentor for many others. “I’ll never take those moments for granted.”
