Savannah James is now taking her place in the spotlight.
In an interview with The Cut for its May-June cover story, the wife of Lakers star LeBron James addressed why she feels ready to be seen outside of her responsibilities as a supportive wife and mother of three — and that things weren’t always that way.
Savannah chose to live a private life for the entirety of James’ 20-year NBA career rather than pursue reality television or become an influencer, as many pro athlete wives and girlfriends do.
“That time, to be honest, was spent pouring into my boys,” she added during the conversation, which took place at a West Hollywood exclusive members-only club.
“I just wanted to enjoy being a mom and helping my husband.” “I wasn’t sure I was comfortable putting myself out there like that.”
The James family matriarch, dubbed “MVP” by the outlet, has never felt the need to publicly answer any rumors regarding her connection.
“That will lead you down a rabbit hole you don’t want to be in,” Savannah said, adding that she does her best to avoid internet comments totally.
However, in comments on Instagram, the Ohio-born businesswoman stated that she is fine with others “thirsting” for her.
“I could see it, and I appreciate it,” Savannah stated. “Everyone wants to see that people are interested in what they are doing right now.” I just went with the flow.
“Sometimes I think to myself, ‘Oh, my god, a little bit much.’ But I understand and accept it. I realized that maybe this is simply where I am right now, and now is my moment to, oh, be noticed.”
The 36-year-old is having fun with “new experiences” in the spotlight, and she has been on “this intentional journey of being a better woman” for the previous four years.
“I went to therapy.” “I’d do anything to learn more about myself and how my brain works in different situations,” she explained. “I am a woman approaching a certain age, and I need to age like the most incredible 19-whatever vintage wine on the market.”
“I set a high intention for my health, moving my body, doing strange things like juicing for three months.”
“I went through a detox program.” It was enjoyable for me. I felt like I could enter meditation, and my mind was more clearer. I was able to make decisions that I would have been hesitant to make had I not done so. It had a spiritual feel to it.”
James praised his wife on Instagram, writing, “The 1 and only” over a photo of Savannah posing for the outlet in an Issey Miyake gown.
In addition to the crown, hearts, flame, and clapping emojis, the Lakers player, who became the NBA’s all-time greatest scorer in February, added a crown, hearts, flame, and clapping emojis.
The 22-year-old high school sweethearts will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary this year.
Savannah’s interview with “The Cut” came just a few days after her eldest son, Bronny James, revealed his commitment to USC.
When asked if her two sons, including 15-year-old Bryce Maximus, may play in the NBA, Savannah said that their happiness is the most essential thing.
“Yeah, I’m happy for them,” she admitted. “Listen, I want nothing more for them than their happiness. That’s all.
“I’m here to support and root for them in whatever they decide to do.” I’m always their biggest fan. If they decide to follow the NBA path or an other route, I’ll be there.”
Savannah and James also have an 8-year-old daughter, Zhuri Nova, who is in her “basketball era” and enjoys watching her father’s games.
Following Thursday’s 121-106 loss at Chase Center, James is prepping for Game 6 against the Warriors.
On Friday, the Lakers have a chance to win the series and go to the Western Conference Finals.
