Lakers coach Darvin Ham denies LeBron James the game ball despite 39,000-point feat for hilarious reason
LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to amass 39,000 points while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. That, along with the fact that the Lakers played like a ‘Showtime’ team in the rout, should make James delighted. However, James has no intention of displaying the game ball as a souvenir of the accomplishment. Darvin Ham, the team’s coach, has denied giving James the game ball, according to Lakers Nation:
What we’re witnessing is admirable. He did not receive the game ball for tonight’s match because the score was 39,000 rather than 40.
Fortunately for James, unless something unexpected happens, he is still on track to reach 40,000 points by the end of the season.
On Tuesday, future Hall of Famers crossed the 1,000-point milestone, and the Lakers icon wasn’t the only one. Kevin Durant of the Suns went up to eleventh all-time in NBA scoring after scoring in the first quarter against the Blazers, passing Elvin Hayes. Moses Malone, who died at the end of his career with 27,409 points, is the only player with a higher career scoring total than Durant. Durant will almost definitely surpass Malone in the season standings within the next month or two.In only 24 minutes of action, James ended with 17 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists in the Lakers’ 131-99 hammering of the Jazz.
Obviously, if it wasn’t LeBron James, we still don’t know who Darvin Ham gave the ball to.
The Lakers will go to Dallas to face the Mavericks tomorrow night.
