LeBron James’ IG post pays tribute to Cleveland after Lakers’ win over Cavs
LeBron James had a rare off night in his return to Northeast Ohio on Saturday, despite having the most efficient shooting season of his 21-year career. The Los Angeles Lakers star required 23 shots to score 22 points against his previous team, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists. Regardless, a dominant second-half performance from Anthony Davis and a pair of clutch back-cut buckets from James propelled the shorthanded Lakers to a 121-115 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, with The King’s homecoming taking a back seat to a highly competitive back-and-forth contest between teams hoping to play deep into the postseason.
James, who grew up in nearby Akron and was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cavaliers in 2003 and spent two different spells in Cleveland before capturing the organization’s only championship in 2016, was honored by his old team with a tribute film midway through the first quarter. As the applause continued, the four-time champion waved to the adoring fans, then formed his hands into the shape of a heart, any bad blood or simmering animosity over James leaving his hometown team twice having long since evaporated.
