LeBron James has traveled the nation and the world over his career as perhaps the best basketball player to have ever lived. He has won three Olympic gold and four NBA titles with three different teams.
But no matter how far he travels, James will always be remembered as Northeast Ohio’s monarch, and that won’t be happening very soon.
LeBron James’ Home Court was inaugurated by his philanthropic foundation prior to the LA Lakers’ victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.
James’s 21-year NBA career, his time as a high school sensation at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School and the last apartment he and his mother had before he turned pro are all represented in the museum.
James stated, via The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, “I used to get on my mom a lot about saving everything, ever since I started playing sports.” Since she saved a lot of the items at the museum, she kind of threw it in my face as things were being prepared there. And that’s really awesome.
In my life, I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish a few goals, including giving back to my town and making it a destination that people are proud of and want to visit. Yes, I am. The fact that my charity has accomplished some amazing things makes me very proud.”
On Sunday, James, 38, and the Lakers even had the chance to take a tour of the museum.
James, the all-time top scorer in the NBA, started his remarkable career with the Cavaliers, a team that is based approximately 40 miles away from his hometown. Before choosing to join Miami’s big three, he played for Cleveland for the first seven years of his career.
However, he finally decided to make a comeback in 2014, and he helped the team win its first NBA championship in the 2015–16 campaign by pulling off an incredible 3–1 comeback over the 73–9 Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
James continues to receive honors when he returns home, even after joining the Lakers a few years ago. To celebrate him shattering the all-time scoring record, the Cavaliers sent him a tribute video on Saturday night.
After all, during his 11 seasons with Cleveland, he scored more than 23,000 points.
James remarked, “Coming back here is always special.” “No matter how old I get, I will never forget being able to return here after my time in Miami and win a championship here for this team, this city.
“Returning to this floor always feels quite good. Observing from above and participating in nearly every banner.”
