The Phoenix Suns will play the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday evening in Canada.
Kevin Durant created NBA history by climbing atop the all-time assist chart during the game.
Durant entered the evening with 4,349 career assists, moving over of Alex English (4,351) for 96th place on the list.
Ray Allen (4,361) will be the next player Durant will pass to after English.
After missing the previous two games, Durant returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday.
He entered the game averaging 31.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 53.3% from the field and 52.2% from three.
While Durant is one of the best scorers in history, he is also a gifted passer, having averaged at least 5.0 assists per game in seven of the previous 15 seasons.
The Suns are 11-6 in their first 17 games, enough for fourth place in the Western Conference.
They are currently on a seven-game winning streak and most recently defeated the New York Knicks 116-113.
Following the Raptors, the Suns will play the Denver Nuggets in Arizona on Friday.
Durant has previously played for the Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and Oklahoma City Thunder in addition to the Suns.
The two-time NBA Champion has career averages of 27.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 1,001 regular season games.
