Although Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors are currently in talks to extend his contract, league executives anticipate that he will finalize a deal worth between $30 and $35 million a year for four years.
That number “sounds reasonable,” according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, given Thompson’s current productivity and the Warriors’ resolve to retain him, Draymond Green, and Stephen Curry together.
The 2025–2026 season is the end of Curry’s contract; in July, Green agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract.
AThompson’s contractual position is a little less secure because of his past history of ailments. He missed 30 months of basketball activity due to an ACL tear suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals and an Achilles tear one year later. In 2022–23, his first complete season since 2018–19, he essentially rediscovered his offensive game.

Though his scoring prowess has been mostly surpassed by the NBA, Thompson nevertheless averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 41.2 percent from three-point shooting in his return. Last season, 36 players made at least 40% of their three-pointers, and 58 players averaged 20 points or more each game.

Only 35 players scored 20 points in 2018–19, while only 22 players made 40 percent of their three-point attempts. Given his apparent downturn on defense, one could claim that Thompson’s value has drastically fallen relative to the rest of the NBA since he signed his prior contract.
Thompson, of course, does not see it that way.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic claims that Thompson said, “I think (my struggles were) a little overrated,” in response. Now more than ever, our team is being closely watched. That’s something you have to admit. There were occasions when I had trouble handling the ball. I am a person. What, wait a minute? Nevertheless, I led the league in 3-pointers while shooting 41%. That is absurd. more than 300 makes. I refuse to downplay my skills. I recognize the tremendous nature of that. After an ACL and an Achilles, that requires a lot of labor.
Despite his diligence, Thompson needs to show increased defensive lateral agility in the NBA today in order to earn his $30–35 million paycheck annually. That deal would look very rapidly to be overvalued if, by the time he reaches his mid-late 30s, he becomes a turnstile.
