Luka Doncic was fined by the NBA for a flopping infraction that occurred during the Dallas Mavericks’ Tuesday night victory against the Houston Rockets. In response, the superstar uploaded pictures of himself practicing wearing referee attire.
In the Dallas Mavericks’ 121-115 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, Luka Doncic had an almost faultless performance, finishing with 41 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and zero turnovers. However, he was assessed a sizable fine for an early-game flop.
The Mavericks star, Nikola Jokic, was fined $2,000 by the NBA on Wednesday for a play that occurred early in the first quarter in which he made a 3-pointer above Rockets player Dillon Brooks and appeared to make no contact with the floor.
Doncic, who is renowned for finding the funny in any situation, shared pictures of himself on his Instagram story while wearing referee attire at the same moment the NBA levied the fine.
Doncic might miss a game at the end of the season because he has accrued numerous technical flags in prior years for shouting at officials. Despite being near the top of the list last year, the 24-year-old star has shown more restraint this year. Through 17 games, he has only committed three technical fouls, which ties him for fourth place in the league with 15 other players.
As a member of the Boston Celtics, former Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis leads the NBA in technical fouls committed this season with eight, followed by Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young with five.
Maybe Doncic’s increased tolerance for NBA officials is due to the fact that Kyrie Irving and the squad around him are now more skilled, which makes up for questionable calls or transgressions. Doncic may have lost his temper during Tuesday’s game against the Houston Rockets after being hit by their extremely aggressive defense or when rookie big man Dereck Lively II continued to draw fouls that a more seasoned player wouldn’t have, but he persevered and the Mavericks were the better for it.
Hopefully, Doncic can continue to be forgiving to referees for the remainder of the season and find humor in situations where he is discovered and fined for somewhat manipulating the whistles.
