The scene at Lake Tahoe’s Edgewood golf course was reminiscent of a Golden State Warriors championship run, with chants of “MVP” echoing and numerous Bay Area celebrities in attendance. However, this time it was not at the Chase Center, but on a scorching day at the golf course where Steph Curry secured his first American Century Championship victory on Sunday.
Steph triumphed after an impressive performance in the tournament’s first round and a stunning hole-in-one in the second round. With the confidence of someone who shoots over 90% from the free-throw line, Curry drained a putt on the 18th hole to clinch the celebrity tournament. He then threw his cap in the air and ran to the sideline to embrace his wife, Ayesha.
“I’ve always dreamed of a situation like this, on the 18th green, in front of a crowd like that, to make a putt,” said Curry, who noted that he had been competing in the tournament for almost a decade.
Curry’s final score of 75 narrowly beаt former tennis pro Mardy Fish, who finished at 73. Other athletes with Bay Area ties, including Aaron Rodgers, John Elway, Mark Mulder, and Joe Pavelski, all finished in the top ten. Dell Curry, Steph’s dad, finished at number 11.
