Donte DiVincenzo joined the Warriors last summer as a replacement for Gary Payton II, who had moved to the Portland Trail Blazers immediately after winning the championship with Golden State.
Following the departure of Gary Payton II to the Portland Trail Blazers, Donte DiVincenzo was selected as a three-and-D (defense and three-point shooting) shooting guard, doubling as an energetic contributor coming off the bench.
Initially, not many people highly rated this Warriors contract. However, with each game, DiVincenzo proved to be not only a fitting choice but also a valuable asset.
Averaging 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, with a 39.7% 3-point shooting rate, the 1997-born guard showcased his оffensive prowess. Defensively, he excelled in shadowing perimeter shooters, consistently engaging in intense and passionate contests.
In addition, Donte’s durability added significant value to the Warriors, playing in 72 regular-season games, alternately filling in for other players sidelined due to injuries.
In the summer of 2022, the Golden State Warriors signed a 2-year contract with Donte DiVincenzo worth $9.2 million in a 1+1 format. The first year was fully guaranteed by both parties, while the decision to commit to the second year rested with the player under the Player Option clause.
Thanks to DiVincenzo’s strong performance and surpassing the initial value of the first-year contract, his decision to use the Player Option to decline the $4.7 million salary with the Warriors is understandable.
From here, Donte will become a free agent and may be looking towards a new, longer-term contract with a better salary for the future.
