In a Friday night matchup at the Paycom Center, the Golden State Warriors faced their second overtime defeat of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder, losing 138-136.
Remarkably, both of the Warriors’ overtime setbacks this season have been at the hands of the Thunder, with Chet Holmgren playing a pivotal role in extending both games. Despite a clutch Steph Curry 3-pointer that granted the Warriors a 3-point lead in the closing seconds, Draymond Green’s foul on Holmgren beyond the arc allowed the Thunder to level the score with three made free throws. Curry’s missed 3-point attempt against Lu Dort in the final seven seconds of regulation forced the game into overtime.
A notable factor in the Warriors’ loss was their season-high 29 turnovers, contributing to the Thunder scoring 35 points off those turnovers. Cory Joseph was the lone Warrior without a turnover, while eight of the 10 players who took the court for Golden State recorded at least one turnover, with Andrew Wiggins leading the way with six, followed by Thompson and Green with four each.
Despite the setback, Curry led the team with 34 points, complemented by Jonathan Kuminga’s 24 points and Klay Thompson’s 22.
Looking ahead, the Warriors continue their road trip with a matchup against Kevin Durant and the Suns in Phoenix on Tuesday, followed by a third encounter with the Clippers in Los Angeles on Thursday.
