Without star point guard Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks will attempt to fend off the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. “Uncle Drew” abandoned the game early due to an unusual incident that most likely resulted in injuries. Since Irving was unable to play again, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was forced to start Seth Curry in the second half. After the first twenty-four minutes of play, Dallas was ahead 71–60.
Irving went to the ground beneath the Mavericks’ hoops. When teammate Dwight Powell attempted to jump up for an offensive rebound, he lost his balance after his foot struck the point guard’s shoulder. When Powell landed on Irving’s leg, the eight-time All-Star winced in agony.
While teammates gathered around him and Dallas’ training staff attended to him, Kyrie Irving spent some time on the floor. Before being assisted to the locker room, he got up to shoot two free throws. At the beginning of the third quarter, Portland’s broadcast revealed that Irving had exited the building in a wheelchair.
“Uncle Drew” contributed 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in his 13 minutes of action. He made all three of his free throws and connected on 4–6 shots. Before the tragic injury, it appeared that he would have a fantastic game.
Kyrie Irving’s condition might be updated by the Dallas Mavericks following the game or in the coming days.
All of Kyrie Irving’s stats are lower than they were the previous season. Nevertheless, his averages per game are 23.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. That might not be sufficient to make it to an All-Star game for the second straight year.
Many of the guards in the Western Conference are having excellent seasons. Among them are Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, De’Aaron Fox, Luka Doncic, and Steph Curry. Irving might not make the team, especially if his anticipated injury keeps him out of the lineup for a number of games.
