‘Like father, like son’: Revealing the Meaningful Inspiration Behind Jayson Tatum’s Tattoos

BOSTON CELTIC STAR JAYSON TATUM has an incredible tattoo collection.

Tattoos celebrating his mother, son, and journey to the NBA are among the artworks decorating the 25-year-old NBA All-Star’s body.

And it all started with his father.

“I always wanted to be like my dad, so I always wanted to get tattoos,” he said in 2019 to NBC Sports.

Justin Tatum, a former NCAA basketball star at St. Louis University, too had his fair amount of ink, which appears to have inspired a young Jayson.

But the former third-round pick took his time, tattooing his wrists shortly before his rookie season in 2017.

These “hurt so bad,” he acknowledged, adding, “I was like, I’m never doing it again.”

“However, after having a son, that became my next tattoo.” I needed something to go with this leg. Then I got a photo of my mother.”

Tatum has consistently added to his collection over the years.

In 2022, Tatum’s tattoo artist, Steve Wiebe, put a massive collage of images recalling his childhood home in St. Louis on the left side of his back.

And he certainly still loves St. Louis, since he has a tattoo of a mushroom cloud with the words “St. Louis – ’til the world blows” on his right leg.
