Following a heated argument with an official, Nikola Jokić was removed from the Nuggets vs. Bulls game on Tuesday night.
Following a play in which Jokić thought he had been fouled, the big man from Denver used his jog back down the court to play defense while glaring at one of the referees.
Jokić was instructed to leave the floor during the next pause in the action. Before the first half was up, he was given a double-technical and was taken out of the game.
Perplexed, Jokić kept arguing his point for a long before giving up and retreating towards the changing area.
The call confused even the Bulls announce staff.
Shortly after the United Center’s doors closed, rumors circulated on social media that Jokić had been removed and that it had happened during Serbian Heritage Night at the Chicago venue.
It was made clear by ESPN reporter Jamal Collier that although the stadium was not hosting an official celebration night, the United Center was offering group tickets.
The decision by the referee to remove Jokić from the game infuriated the fans, who voiced their disapproval on social media as well as in the arena.
Jokić wasn’t the only player to receive a harsh technical on Tuesday night; the Mavericks’ Tim Hardaway Jr. also received a soft tech for hanging on the rim, eliciting a similar chorus of jeers from the crowd.
