The Golden State Warriors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 118-114 on Sunday night. They are now 12-14 on the season and have won back-to-back games for the first time since November 3rd.

For the first time since November 8, 2018, Steph Curry played in a game and failed to hit a three-point field goal. It ended an NBA-record 268-game streak. In fact, it was one of Curry’s worst-scoring performances in some time. Despite playing in more than 31 minutes of action, Curry scored just 7 points on 2-for-12 shooting from the field. He was 0-for-8 from behind the arc and even missed a free throw late that left the door open for Portland.

Given how the season has gone so far for the Warriors, it seemed hard to envision Golden State coming out on top. However, Klay Thompson continued a very productive stretch with 28 points on 16 field-goal attempts. Coming off the bench, Andrew Wiggins stepped up in a big way as well, finishing 9-for-12 from the field with 25 points in 29 minutes.

While Wiggins and Thompson picked up the scoring slack, the young players all had vital contributions as well. Trayce Jackson-Davis was a massive spark plug and continued making a strong case for a larger role. He recorded 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block in just 17 minutes. Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski both scored double-figures as well.

The Trail Blazers never led during the game, and the Warriors built a 22-point advantage early in the third quarter. However, Golden State once again proved unable to coast to victory. Instead, Portland steadily cut into the deficit.

Even with a 113-108 lead in the final minute, Curry forced a deep three, likely motivated by the temptation to keep his streak alive. The Blazers turned the long rebound into a transition and-one going the other way. Chris Paul answered with a huge midrange fadeaway to maintain a two-possession lead.

Another and-one later, and Curry found himself at the free-throw line with a one-point lead. After missing the second, the Blazers opted not to use a timeout. Shaedon Sharpe drove the other way, but Podziemski slid in his way and drew a game-sealing charge.
