Denver Nuggets vs Dallas Mavericks: Luka Doncic Misses Dallas Mavs Shootaround, Kyrie Irving out

Doncic was added to the injury report late, with the Mavericks putting him as probable to play due to sickness. He is, however, anticipated to play against the Nuggets, as he is listed as “probable” on the report.

Kyrie Irving (right heel contusion), Dereck Lively II (left ankle sprain), Josh Green (right elbow sprain), and Maxi Kleber (right small toe dislocation) have already been declared out by the Mavericks. The team’s center position could be further reduced based on Richaun Holmes’ ultimate availability, which is unclear due to sickness.

The NBA awarded Doncic the Western Conference Player of the Week for the week of December 11 to December 17. He led the Mavericks to a 3-1 record in 41.0 minutes per game, averaging 36.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 11.5 assists, and 1.5 steals. He made 49.0 percent of his shots from the field, 35.9 percent from the perimeter, and 96.9 percent of his free throws.

“It’s not easy, trust me,” Doncic remarked. “I’m just trying to figure out the game.” I always take whatever the defense gives me. I observe what they are doing.

“They gave me a lot of playing time, but I’ve been feeling good.” I’ve been feeling terrific because I’ve been out there playing basketball.”

Doncic’s contribution to the Mavericks has garnered him high accolades from teammates. Markieff Morris recently questioned why the Slovenian superstar hasn’t received more MVP attention.

“I played with some great players, but when I tell you the game is just so easy to him,” Morris went on to say. “I’ve never seen somebody walk through the game. In practice, he plays the same manner. It’s just his talent.”

The Mavericks will return to action on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers, completing a week of challenging upcoming opponents that includes back-to-back games against the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
