Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors forward who was suspended indefinitely by the NBA last week for striking Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, is still absent from the court – and could be for weeks, not months.
Green has begun counseling, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, citing unnamed league sources, and is anticipated to be suspended for at least the next three weeks.
The Warriors play 11 games during that time.
The NBA and the Golden State Warriors have been contacted for comment.
The NBA issued Green’s extended suspension on December 13, citing Green’s “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts.”
During the Warriors’ 119-116 loss to the Suns on December 12, Green struck Nurki in the face with his right arm.
Green said after the game that the impact was unintentional. Green was ejected from a game for the third time this season, and he was suspended for the second time.
Following that, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stated that Green’s ban “makes sense.”
“I think the suspension makes sense,” Kerr explained. “This is about more than basketball to me.” It’s all about assisting Draymond.
“I believe it is an opportunity for Draymond to step back and change his approach, his life.” That is not an easy task.”
