The New York Knicks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 114-109 on Monday night. LeBron James recorded his 109th career triple-double, but the Knicks were able to make up for it thanks to 11 of Jalen Brunson’s 29 points in the fourth quarter.

Even though James led a comeback in the fourth quarter, the Knicks managed to hold off the Lakers and win on the road for the second time in 2023. Immanuel Quickley scored 20 points, while Julius Randle finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds.

James led the Lakers with 25 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds. The Lakers have dropped three of their last four games since winning the inaugural In-Season Tournament. Even though Anthony Davis finished with 32 points and 14 rebounds, the Los Angeles Lakers were unable to cut into the lead because they missed several opportunities later in the game.

James scored two baskets in a row with 3 minutes and 38 seconds remaining in the game to reduce the Knicks’ lead to 103-99. But shortly after, Randle scored a desperate three-point jumper to beat the shot clock. With forty seconds left in the game, James missed a three-point shot that would have cut New York’s lead to two points. Next, Randle scored a dunk on the other end of the court, giving New York a win that was ripped apart.

James, 38, is in his 21st season in the National Basketball Association. This season, he recorded his second triple-double. In NBA history, he is the only player to have achieved this feat.

Even though Austin Reaves led the Lakers with twenty points, the club was unable to win as Davis, D’Angelo Russell, and Cam Reddish all returned from injury after missing a humiliating loss to San Antonio three nights earlier.

After losing to the Clippers two nights prior, New York bounced back thanks to three three-pointers from Brunson in an excellent all-around performance. Against his former team, Randle scored 16 points in the first half and Brunson added three.

Before their first home game since December 5th, the Lakers unveiled a banner honouring their undefeated run through the In-Season Tournament, which ended in their triumph against Indiana in Las Vegas nine days ago.

They took the chance to present the banner to the public, to a polite cheer from their supporters. The twelve gold crowns of Los Angeles are all hanging in a less conspicuous place, although the banners for those titles are hung boldly on the north wall of their downtown arena.
