In their Christmas Day game against the Denver Nuggets, the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors were unable to secure the victory. Although many would argue that Steph Curry wasn’t entirely to blame for the defeat, their head coach has different ideas.
Curry led them with eighteen points in a 114-120 defeat. The two-time MVP had a poor shooting performance in the game, finishing at 33.3% from the field. Just seven of the twenty-one shots he took were successful. The 2022 Finals MVP struggled to make his three-pointers as well, missing only 23.1% of his attempts.
Nikola Jokic found it easy to get to the queue. With 26 points for the evening and 18 free throws made, he concluded the contest. Throughout the entire game, Golden State made 23 trips to the charity stripe.
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr expressed his displeasure with how they had lost, as reported by The Athletic:
“The officials themselves don’t bother me in the slightest. We have excellent officials around the league. The way we are legislating defense out of the game bothers me. In the NBA, that is what we are doing. We’re merely allowing players to BS their way to the foul line in the manner we’re instructing the officials. I wouldn’t have wanted to watch the second half if I had been a fan. It was repulsive.”
“Just luring referees into calls, but it’s up to the refs to make those decisions.” It is their method of instruction. In this league, the players are extremely intelligent. It’s revolting to watch as they are using their increasing intelligence to their fullest advantage, turning the game into a parade to the free throw line.”
