Kevon Looney is one of the league’s most underappreciated players. But if there’s one player ready to laud his praises, it’s Steph Curry.
Curry spoke to the media last week about Looney and explained how he helps the Golden State Warriors win games.
“Whether it’s a regular season game or the playoff runs we’ve had…one it’s his availability, he’s always preparing himself to be out there, play physical, and give us that presence in the paint,” Curry said of the forward. It gets us possessions because he’s a good basketball player who knows how to move the ball and set fantastic screens. The way our offense is set up, even if he isn’t finishing, he can set up other guys.”
Looney isn’t the type of player that will wow people with his stats. He will be the type of player that people remember if they watch the game. He’s been charged with guarding opposing teams’ greatest players on numerous occasions, whether he’s coming off the bench or starting. Most players would grumble about irregular rotation minutes or coming off the bench, but Looney isn’t like that.
There is no better way to convey Kevon Looney’s effect than in the words of Steph Curry himself.
“Don’t let anyone take Loon’s work for granted. If you know basketball, you know that the little things on the margins help you win consistently.”
