Nikola Jokicc, a Denver Nuggets center who spends his summers watching his horses race, is ready to give up his celebrity once his NBA career is finished.
“Being famous, some people like it, some people don’t,” Jokic said on Thursday’s episode of his podcast, “Curious Mike” (h/t Awful Announcing). “When I finish my career, I really hope no one knows who I am.” I hope my child or children remember me as a father in the future. “I believe that will be my life’s goal.”
Jokic’s remarks appear at the 8:00 point in the video below.
“I really don’t like this life because we’re just basketball players at the end of the day.” “We’re just good at what we do,” Jokic explained. “But the media is something that is around us, and of course, we are getting paid because of the media, because of our popularity.”
People “taking their phones out and trying to record” him in public as a result of his popularity, according to Jokic.
“I think that’s really, I’m going to say, rude,” Jokicć added. “I’m not out there flaunting myself. “I am simply who I am.”
The 28-year-old spends his summers in Serbia, where he is constructing his horse stable, Dream Catcher. He stated earlier this season that he intends to do so after retiring from professional basketball.
“I love it,” Jokic stated in October, according to Bennett Durando of the Denver Post. “It’s my obsession.” It takes me out of this thing.”
Jokic’s horses continue to draw crowds in Serbia, but it pales in comparison to the attention the big man received after leading the Nuggets to their first title in franchise history.
Those honors are set to continue as Jokic approaches his sixth consecutive All-Star season, averaging 26.5 points, 9.2 assists, and 12.3 rebounds in 31 games with the Nuggets.
