Aaron Gordon returned to practice with the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, a week after being bitten by his pet Rottweiler, which left him with 21 stitches across his right shooting hand and face.
Gordon looked fine in practice on Sunday, according to coach Michael Malone, “but we’ll see how he’s feeling tomorrow with the hand.”
Gordon said that his four-year-old dog, which he adopted when he was six weeks old, had been in the care of family members due to the travel demands of the NBA schedule, and that he was playing with his dog after the Nuggets’ win against the Warriors on Christmas Day when he was attacked.
Gordon admitted that he had “probably had a little too much eggnog” and that he’d been “kind of roughhousing with my dog and I think my dog got a little excited and just basically chomped down.”
Gordon has 21 stitches on his right hand, but he also has scarring around his lip.
“I’ve played with stitches in my hand before, so that’s nothing new to me,” he explained, adding, “I don’t really mind the stitches on my face.” We’re not holding a beauty pageant here.”
Gordon admitted that he is to fault for the dog bite.
“He’s a good kid.” He’s a nice dog. “I’m very attached,” Gordon explained. “Very nice. Very powerful. Wonderful dog.”
Gordon averages 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.
