Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, the team’s backup players, are the Milwaukee Bucks’ best imitations of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, according to assistant coach Vin Baker.
Speaking to NBA reporter Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson at the recent introduction of his Bouncing Back Foundation, Baker compared the Los Angeles Lakers legends to the Antetokounmpo-Lillard combination.
“I see a Shaq and Kobe dynamic from a talent standpoint,” Baker said. “We have two NBA top 75 players on our roster, and we also have Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, Brook Lopez, Pat Connaughton.”
He added: “But with Dame and Giannis – and not even with their greatness as players – I think the thing that I’m most fascinated by daily being around them is their humility. Like, you couldn’t have picked two more perfect people to go together – not players, perfect people. They’re both humble, they both want to win a championship, and they both have extreme talent.
“So, we’re blessed and fortunate to have them in Milwaukee. Dame, as you heard all the rumors during the summertime – Miami, all the other places – could’ve gone anywhere, but we’re fortunate to have (who) we consider one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game.”
Lillard played for the Portland Trail Blazers for 11 seasons until being moved to Milwaukee in September. After 31 games as a Buck, he is averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds.
In his eleventh season with the Bucks, Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 11.3 rebounds per contest.
