On Friday, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed the current drama involving third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga.
“I played for 15 years and I was always frustrated with my playing time,” Kerr said prior of the Warriors’ game against the Detroit Pistons.
The Athletic stated following the Warriors’ 130-127 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday that Kuminga “has lost faith in Steve Kerr and no longer believes that Kerr will allow him to reach his full potential.”
“We talked,” Kerr explained on Friday. “Obviously, those are better discussed behind closed doors.” When something like that becomes public, it becomes a diversion. You have a problem, and I’m here to help. I’m probably the most approachable coach in the league. “I keep my door open at all times.”
Kuminga has started the Warriors’ last 11 games with Draymond Green suspended indefinitely, but he wasn’t in the final lineup Thursday night when Golden State blew an 18-point lead and lost on a 39-foot buzzer-beater by Nikola Jokic.
Kuminga has averaged 12.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per game in 33 games this season.
On the Warriors, his average playing time per game ranks seventh, below Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and youngster Brandin Podziemski.
