January 12 – The Dallas Mavericks defeated the visiting New York Knicks 128-124 on Thursday night, despite a fourth-quarter comeback led by Tim Hardaway Jr. and a season-high 44 points from Kyrie Irving.

With 1:08 left in the game, New York overcame a 21-point third-quarter deficit to get within 121-120 as Donte DiVincenzo’s 3-pointer finished a 27-8 rally. The next time Dallas had the ball, Josh Green made a 3-pointer, and the Mavericks won it at the free-throw line.

Grant Williams scored 11 points and Green equaled his season high of 18 points to lead Dallas, who triumphed for the fourth time in their previous five games. Due to a sprained right ankle, Mavericks star Luka Doncic was unable to participate.

For New York, who lost their five-game winning run, Julius Randle scored 32 points. Against his old team, Jalen Brunson scored thirty points, DiVincenzo added nineteen, and OG Anunoby chipped in with ten. With 15 rebounds, Isaiah Hartenstein had a game-high.

Dallas shot 8 of 10 from 3-point range and 69.6 percent from the field to take a 44–26 advantage.

The Knicks suffered their first loss since acquiring Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in a deal on December 30. They shot 14 of 42 (33.3%) from 3-point range.

Dallas made 50% of their shots from the field and 17 of its 41 (31.5%) 3-point attempts were made.

Dallas ended the half with a 74-54 lead after ending on a 17-8 run, while New York closed the half with a 10-point edge. Irving and Hardaway scored 18 apiece in the half.

In the third quarter, the Knicks came back with a vengeance, as Randle scored back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 10-2 run that trimmed the lead to 90-84. Dallas answered, winning 101–86 at the end of the quarter.

With 19 points in the third quarter, Randle helped the Knicks stay in the game. Irving scored three 3-pointers out of his 20 points during the quarter.
