Speaking to the public on Monday at Clayton Kershaw’s Ping Pong 4 Purpose Celebrity Tournament were pro athlete siblings Klay and Trayce Thompson.
Star center fielder Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors and his brother Trayce Thompson of the Los Angeles Dodgers belong to an exclusive group of brothers who made it big in professional sports. The two can now take pleasure in witnessing each other’s accomplishments on the court at Chase Center or on the field at Dodger Stadium.
Speaking to PEOPLE on Monday at Clayton Kershaw’s Ping Pong 4 Purpose Celebrity Tournament, Klay, 32, asserts that he has always known Trayce would play major league baseball.
“He just really loved Ken Griffey [Jr.], that was his hero,” Klay adds. “I never really remember a time where he did not have a baseball bat in his hands.”
As a child, Trayce, now 31 years old, “was always taping bats, gripping them,” according to his brother. “I was aware that was coming for him. I was aware of it.”
In the 2022 NBA Finals, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics.
Now that he’s won his fourth NBA title with the Warriors, Klay likes to watch his brother play in the stands at Dodger Stadium with Steph Curry.
“Watching the action while consuming a large number of beers and nachos is the most enjoyable. And to encourage your brother? Klay remarks, “I feel like a kid again.” “It’s the best.”
The Ping Pong 4 Purpose Celebrity Tournament, which raised over $1 million to support Kershaw’s Challenge and its 2022 beneficiaries—Shoes That Fit, The Dream Center, Arise Africa, Both Ends Believing, and International Justice Mission—even gave the brothers the opportunity to team up and compete together on Monday night.
In addition to their achievements in sports, Klay and Trayce tell PEOPLE that they enjoy being creative in their spare time. Klay says, “Trayce is an extremely talented artist.” “As a child, he was truly an excellent drawing. He’s quite good with the utensils, watercolors, and sketches.”
“People’s unaware of that,” the NBA champion continues.
Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors honors a train hero on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
As a matter of fact, Klay remembers his brother drawing his idol, the aforementioned baseball player, to combine his love of sports and the arts. “He would draw Ken Griffey [Jr.] a lot and he was a very talented artist,” declares Klay.
On August 8, 2022, in Los Angeles, California, Trayce Thompson attends Ping Pong 4 Purpose, which is sponsored by UCLA Health and Skechers, at Dodger Stadium.
Regarding Klay’s hobbies, Trayce notes that his older brother is a multifaceted individual.
“[Klay] is a rather complete human being. He has a good sense of melody. He’s really one of the most interesting individuals you’ll ever meet, but he’s always been a bit of a daredevil. Though he enjoys a wide range of activities, Michael Jackson is without a doubt his favorite musician. Thus, you may recognize Klay’s house anytime you hear Michael Jackson playing loudly at my parents’ house.”
Additionally, Trayce tells PEOPLE that he has taken pleasure in witnessing his brother pursue a new interest in diving—a pastime he took up after buying a boat in 2021. “Everyone knows about his boat now, but he actually will dive, like he’ll do some deep dive, not crazy deep, but for him to find that passion was pretty cool,” states Trayce.

Even though Klay had a wide range of interests, Trayce was somewhat taken aback when his brother chose to play professional basketball rather than football.
Trayce remarks, “I thought he was going to play football.” “He doesn’t talk about a lot anymore, but he was a really good quarterback.”
Though his brother was first perplexed by Klay’s decision to pursue basketball, Trayce said he is not shocked at all by his success with the Golden State Warriors. “I was surprised he quit football as early as he did, but I wasn’t surprised he has done what he’s done,” Trayce adds.
